KLCI crossing the 1,500 mark

KLCI crossed breached the 1500 mark today. It ended the day at 1516.22, up 24.56 points. MRCB, SIME and Maybank led the market. Volume traded today was RM4.3 bil.

The big news today is MRCB-Scomi Engineering edging out competitors for the Penang Monorail contract as reported in the Edge Daily. MRCB is also set to increase its order book when the final word on who's getting the Penang Outer Ring Road work is out.

Local breaking news: Tenggaroh Assemblyman Datuk S. Krishnasamy was shot dead in the lift at the state MIC headquarters.

Merrill Lynch & Co., the third- largest U.S. securities firm, may write down $15 billion related to U.S. mortgage losses, almost twice its original estimate. (New York Times)

China's trade surplus narrowed for a second month as export growth slowed, signaling that the fastest economic expansion in 13 years may have peaked. Exports grew at the slowest pace in two years, indicating that recent yuan gains, the cooling global expansion and cuts to export-tax rebates on polluting industries are beginning to bite.
